learning at the desk.

AN INDEPENDENT LEARNING PROJECT

Practice the fix.
Document the thinking.

A small IT help desk lab for learning how to diagnose employee problems, explain the next step, and know when to escalate.

Work in progressWindows 11 is installed and verified. The five incident simulations are planned; results will be added after each exercise.

THE APPROACH

Support starts with a good question.

01

Understand the impact

Ask what changed, who is affected, and what the person is trying to do. Capture the actual error.

02

Test a clear hypothesis

Gather evidence, make the smallest appropriate change, and keep a way to restore the baseline.

03

Verify and explain

Confirm the original task works for the affected user. Write a useful update and an escalation decision.

FIVE PRACTICE TICKETS

The incident notebook.

Each exercise includes the fault to introduce, diagnostic steps, a proposed fix, verification, rollback, and an evidence checklist.

Status changes only after an exercise is performed and its evidence is reviewed. No employees or production systems are involved.

LEARN WITH A PURPOSE

Spend most of the time where support work happens.

Start with Windows, Microsoft 365, and identity. Add networking, clear tickets, and Intune as the lab grows.

READY FOR THE NEXT SESSION

A guide. A template. A clean baseline.

Start from the existing VM, build a dedicated practice environment, and turn each verified fix into a short case study.

HONEST EXPERIENCE, CLEARLY SHOWN
